Calcium Chloride - Calcium Chloride is liquid brine in its natural state and is converted into a dry material by removing the water. When applied to ice or snow, it absorbs the moisture, as it changes back to water the chemical reaction gives off heat melting any ice or snow that it has been applied to.
Calcium Chloride is also effective as a dust control, once applied to a dusty area; the calcium will absorb the moisture from the air. Calcium will then create a damp surface free of dust. Commonly used on construction sites and in horse arenas.
- Extreme low temp. Ice melt
- Works as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit
- Dust control
- Low residual
- Available in flake form only
- 50 LB bags
- Calcium should not be applied to Grass or Vegetation
Bulk Rock Salt - Rock salt is the most commonly used method of ice and snow removal. As rock salt melts it creates brine and lowers the freezing temperature of the water around it.
- Works best between 15 and 32 degrees Fahrenheit
- Sold by the ton
- Does leave a residual
- Sold by the ton
Sand Salt Mix - Sand salt mix is a combination of concrete sand and straight rock salt mixed together at a 3:1 ratio. The primary purpose is a road salt for traction and melting of icy surfaces.
- Cost effective (cheaper than straight salt)
- Provides traction before and after melting process
- Works just as salt would
- Sold by the ton
Magnesium Chloride - Magnesium chloride is the best total ice melter. Compared to calcium chloride and sodium chloride (rock salt), MAG is less corrosive towards metal surfaces, creates less concrete spalling, is less toxic, and is environmentally safer.
- High performance ice melt
- Less irritating to skin
- Safe for vegetation, animals, & humans
- Less toxic than salt & calcium chloride
*During the winter season, J & J Materials Corp. has extended hours to accommodate customers when it snows or when we have inclement weather. During those times, please call 1-508-336-5363, and the answering machine will tell you our hours at that time.
